Ippudo Westside for a Feast!
Following our cultural experience at This Is Our Youth, Melissa and I headed to Ippudo Westside for some RAMEN! It was a fun restaurant choice for Halloween - the entire staff was dressed up in incredible Halloween outfits. A lot of the diners were dressed up as well. It added to the ambiance around my ramen slurping!
As we waited at the bar for our table, we were both interested in the Grapefruit Hai on the menu: its shochu topped with fresh squeezed grapefruit juice. YUM! The bartender was very friendly and offered to give each of us a complimentary candy corn shot. To me, it tasted more like an Orange Julius, either way, it was tasty and free, which is ALWAYS good!
As an appetizer, I got the Shishito peppers, served with yuzu salt. Melissa isn't a fan of them, because they are usually too spicy. I was more optimistic but quickly took that back after each successive bite. Typically, 1 in 10 is spicy. I felt like 10 in 10 was spicy. YOWZERS!
For an appetizer, we shared Pork Hirata Buns. The dish is two steamed buns filled with pork and served with Ippudo's original spicy buns sauce and mayo. MAYO is delicious always. For my ramen, I got the Akamaru Modern. It is savory, filling and oh so flavorful. I highly recommend it as what to order on your visit to Ippudo! Melissa got the lighter option, the Shiromaru Hakata Classic. She was super pleased with it :)
Ippudo Westside is a nice addition to the older location near NYU. Both have great service and delicious food.
Cheers,
Liz
