A Fresh Baked Welcome Back

Best Bagel and Coffee

When my mom and I got back from Ireland, we were too exhausted to go out to eat. Naturally, we ordered Seamless - it is such a luxury to get delicious food delivered to you!

The next morning, we left my apartment (a small victory in itself on these humid days!) to finally go to Best Bagel & Coffee (no website, http://www.yelp.com/biz/best-bagel-and-coffee-new-york). I haven't had a Sausage, Egg & Cheese in a LONG TIME, so that is exactly what I ordered. I got it on an everything bagel - so many seeds and on BOTH SIDES!

I got a large iced coffee (delicious!) and my mom got a Sesame Bagel, toasted with butter. She also loved it!

If you're in Midtown West, the bagels here are delicious - really some of the best I've had in Manhattan.

Cheers,

Feasting at Feast

An Accurately Named Restaurant

Aish and I wanted to catch up over brunch. I love trying new restaurants and I put a lot of thought into selecting this location because Aish is a vegetarian. I bring this up because many restaurants do not offer good options for vegetarians for brunch that are exciting. When I looked at the reviews and saw the menu, I knew Feast (http://eatfeastnyc.com/) would have more than enough choices for her (and me!).

As an interesting side note, Google Glass users allegedly panned the restaurant after one user was asked to remove her glasses. Heaven forbid! The story is a bit egregious (Glass wearers referred to the restaurant as "bigoted"), so check it out: http://ny.eater.com/archives/2014/05/feast_viciously_panned_by_enraged_google_glass_users.php

Feast offers an awesome brunch special: $26 includes one cocktail (mimosa, bellini, or "beery mary") or non-alcoholic beverage (fresh squeezed OJ or bottomless coffee), a bakery basket & yogurt parfait & daily juice shot & other item (was a deviled egg) for the table and one entrée per person! WHAT A DEAL!

I am so glad I chose the Beery Mary. I would describe it as Bloody Mary mix with beer poured on top of it. It was absolutely refreshing and tasty! I've had Micheladas before and this was much better.

I didn't bring the right lens for my camera (still learning!) so I had to take several shots of the shared plates to capture everything we got! My preference was the baked goods, deviled eggs, juice (carrot and orange) and yogurt parfait.

Aish ordered the croque-madame. Since she is a vegetarian, she didn't get the prosciutto on it, which I would argue is the best party.

I ordered the Baby Back Benedict - served with grits, greens and BBQ hollandaise. It sounds like an odd combination, but it was one of the BEST benedicts I've ever had! The ribs were succulent, flavorful and uber tender. DELICIOUS!

This is a lovely restaurant with tasty good, great ambiance and very affordable pricing. You simply must check it out!

Pancakes on Pancakes

There is a certain type of joy when you find out your table is ready at a restaurant. Back in the day, restaurants would write down your name (on paper!) and give you a buzzer. Now, it goes in an iPad and you get a text message.

After 45 minutes, I got a text message that our table was ready at Clinton St. Baking Company (http://clintonstreetbaking.com/).

Even though we already had a cup of coffee at Cocoa Bar, we ordered another one here. Check out Scott enjoying his cup of coffee! I just got a new camera (Canon T3i) and I'm still learning how to use it. I wanted to up the quality of images on my site.

Oh hi there

Oh hi there

Scott ordered the Buttermilk Biscuit Sandwich made with scrambled eggs, melted cheddar, house made tomato jam, with hash browns. He added bacon because well, bacon. He also got a side order of cheese grits.

I ordered the FAMOUS Pancakes with Warm Maple Butter with Wild Maine Blueberries. It only comes with one small container of syrup (it has the butter melted in it). I like a nice ratio of pancake to syrup, so I asked for more syrup. I was a bit disappointed when it was an additional $2 - at least give me enough so I don't need to pay more!

This is a great breakfast spot. I recommend coming during off hours because it is so crowded!

They Excel at Pastrami and basically everything else

Of course we had to return to Sarges (http://www.sargesdeli.com/) during my parent's visit to NYC! We came for a late breakfast / early lunch.

My dad ordered a Swiss Cheese and Bacon Omelette, while my brother got the Cheddar, Bacon and Spinach Omelette and my mom got Eggs over easy with Grits. I got the pastrami with macaroni salad - duh! I didn't snap a pic though :(

Went to Newport, obviously there was Lobster

Corner Café Delivers for Brunch!

Last weekend, I had a fantastic weekend in Newport, RI with about half of my MBA class. The weather cooperated and many lobsters sacrificed themselves to a higher purpose. Christine and I were SUPER pumped in our bibs waiting for the lobster!

Once the lobster arrived, I couldn't help myself from taking a photo with my yummy buddy.

We had a moment....then I broke his neck. Oops

I am an empathetic person, so I put myself in the lobster's shoes...

You must appreciate a good pun - it cracks me up too!

We had some time the day before we left, so Christine and I researched the BEST spot. We found the Corner Café (http://www.cornercafenewport.com/) and we were not disappointed!

I don't know about you, but I always struggle with brunch. To go sweet or savory? Luckily, I had a kick ass brunch buddy (Christine!) and she struggles with this too!! We decided to order one of each and go halfsies!

For savory, we ordered the Cowboy Scrambler. It was eggs scrambled with ham, BACON!!!, jalapeno peppers, onions and pepperjack cheese. It was going to be served on top of sourdough bread, but we didn't want soggy bread, so we got that on the side (solid move). It was topped with sour cream and salsa. So good!

GET IN MY BELLY!

The potatoes were awesome as well and were a nice complement to the scrambler.

For sweet, we got the Wootens Sweetbread French Toast, served with homemade maple pecan butter! I prefer hot syrup (so it melts the butter and doesn't make the entrée cold) and they were happy to heat it up - love the service!

The powdered sugar adds extra drama

I loved the different flavors from both of our orders - it would have been too much to just have all the French Toast, so the eggs were a great contrast! I also loved the bottomless coffee - it was always kept full. Great service!

If you're in Newport, you must check this spot out!

Cheers,

Good Ol' Diner Food Hits the Spot

Waverly is a Master at Consistency

I love Scott. He is one of my favorite MBA1s and also one of my favorite people in general. We often end up catching up whenever both of our schedules allow. Typically, these catch-ups are done over a shared meal. We both love breakfast. A diner that is one of our favorites is Waverly (http://www.yelp.com/biz/waverly-new-york-2). It is so legit that it doesn't even have a website. This is the real deal!

When we went here the first time, we both got the breakfast skillet This is more of a savory play. Eggs. Bacon. Hash Browns. GAME OVER. I wanted to change it up this time, so I ordered chocolate chip pancakes. I prefer hot syrup with my pancakes and I appreciate that they would heat it up for me. Cold syrup sucks - it doesn't melt the butter and cools down the pancakes. NOT COOL...literally, COLD.

This place is great. If you're in the West Village and looking for a great meal, hit up Waverly!

The Grey Dog's Coffee

Catching up with a Friend over Breakfast

I've heard countless positive reviews about the Grey Dog (http://www.thegreydog.com/) and had not managed to go yet...that is until last week! I was in the mood for great food and conversation. I don't have any more classes with Zach (a dear friend) this semester so catching up over breakfast sounded like a plan. We both had to be on campus at 8am, so we both needed a welcome distraction after.

Omelette Action

Omelette Action

I enjoyed this place. The omelette wasn't the best I've had; it could have had more cheese throughout, it was more just layered in the middle than mixed throughout the omelette. I loved the sausage patties - delish!

Cheers,

Liz
