A Delicious Meal Worthy of a Legend
I love restaurants with cool names. When I was searching Yelp for a new place to dine, Ichabod's caught my attention because of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. We didn't end up checking it out, but it is pretty cool that the bar next door is The Headless Horseman. I'm not sure if these two establishments are owned by the same people (would make sense) or if someone found a creative opportunity for branding!
We arrived a bit early for happy hour (Monday-Friday from 5-7pm). I arrived super early and took some photos outside. The signage and flowers create a wonderful first impression.
There were two seasonal cocktails on the happy hour menu: Hessian Tea (bourbon based) and the Autumn Bramble (gin based). I tried both of them but found the Bramble to be tastier! I loved the juicy flavors of the berry jam contrasting with the citrus notes of the gin. I love that the happy hour features true mixology cocktails for $5!
We picked our selections based off of the knowledge of the crowds: Yelp recommendations! The squash dumplings served with brown butter, truffled chestnuts and sage were DIVINE. The sauce was just the most yummy deliciousness I've had in a while. One of the servers, with good intentions I'm sure, attempted to take the bowl away once we finished the dumplings. HELLO!! I need to sop up all the sauce! Thankfully, our server brought over some bread slices to get the sauce up - YUM!
For entrees, we got the Crane's Burger with cheddar, red onion marmalade, pickles and herb aioli, and the Seared Wild Striped Bass with green curry, long beans, charred eggplant and scallions. The burger was juicy and the fries were delicious. The fish was good but I wasn't as crazy about it. I liked the green curry but I much prefer red curry, so I'm not too surprised. It was still good though. I would have preferred more squash dumplings!! :)
For my third cocktail, I got a rum punch (the website hasn't been updated, so I don't recall all the ingredients). It was lovely though - I liked the touch of rosemary. A functional garnish.
As a dessert, we got the Sundae in a jar, served with homemade vanilla ice cream, pretzel pieces and salted caramel! I loved the presentation in the mason jar with toasted marshmallow - so cute!
I can't wait to come back here - especially for the Happy Hour and the squash dumplings - one of the tastiest dishes I've had in a long time!
Cheers,
Liz
