Bo's Kitchen & Bar Room Serves up Cajun Classics
I love catching up with friends over a yummy meal! I was hankering to see Gone Girl and I asked Frank, a good friend, if he was interested. He said yes! - the perfect opportunity for a dinner and movie :) He was with Sophia (another friend I met in Chile) so we all met up for dinner at a spot I've had my eyes on: Bo's Kitchen & Bar Room in Flatiron.
As I walked up to the restaurant, I really loved the exterior. The signage was cute and made it easy to find the entrance :)
I ended up arriving a bit early, so I saddled up at the bar and ordered a cocktail. The online menu isn't updated for the Fall, so the cocktail I got (made with gin and thyme) wasn't on the menu. It was absolutely lovely! I've really been feeling gin lately - it is so versatile.
We ordered several items family style. The burrata, served with golden quinoa, salsa verde and peaches was a large portion! It would have been so much better if the peaches were ripe - they were a bit hard and not very "peachy" - I did love the burrata with the quinoa though, it could have just had a different fruit with it. Also, it kind of looked like..well..you figure it out. We also got the Triple Tail Fish Ceviche (not on the online menu).
For the entrees, Sophia and I both for the Louisiana Spiced Redfish served with parsnip, Asian pear, okra and "crabby sauce" - THIS WAS SO YUMMY! The crisp flavor of the Asian pear contrasted wonderfully with the rich, creamy crab sauce. Knock-out dish!
We split the Mac and Cheese, made with house-made cavatelli and cornbread crumbs. It was forgettable, which makes me sad :(
Frank ordered the Sea Scallops, served with breakfast radish, lollipop kale, oyster mushroom, meyer lemon gremolata, and micro sunflower sprouts. I sampled a bit and it was also yummy...but the Redfish was the BEST!
For dessert, we got the Flourless Chocolate Cake made with dark chocolate ganache and honey lavender ice cream. This was so rich and delicious! I loved the lavender ice cream - sometimes this flavor can taste "soapy" and it absolutely did not.
Overall, the food was delicious. We went on Saturday and the restaurant was not that busy, which makes me sad! I hope you read this review and are motivated to check it out. The cocktails, entrees and service are top notch!
Cheers,
Liz
