First Date The Musical!
I'm excited to write my first post in the Culture and Entertainment arena. When my good friend Meredith was visiting, I finally got the opportunity to see First Date starring Zachary Levi and Krysta Rodriguez.
Waiting to go inside!
Since you're not allowed to snap photos during the show (because it is rude and obnoxious), I took one shot of the playbill before the show started.
The Playbill!
It is hard to describe how much I loved this musical! Even with balcony seats, we enjoyed the show and didn't feel like we missed out on anything. My student budget much preferred spending $60 on tickets instead of $150+! It is important to look into how big the theatre is before you purchase tickets - a small theatre (like Longacre Theatre where I saw First Date) makes for a more intimate setting, regardless of your seat.
The show is 90 minutes without an intermission. The cast is small and many of the roles are played by the same characters; they take on such different personalities that it is quite impressive!
The songs truly capture the dramedy that is a first date and dating in general. One song in particular, "The Things I Never Said," was very touching and I had a Kleenex moment (yes, sobbing quieting in public isn't too sexy, but it happens). One of the opening songs, "First Impressions," was hilarious and reminded me of too many dates!
This is a musical that would be great to go see with a group of girlfriends. Alternatively, if you're in a relationship with someone and want to see something entertaining, most people (regardless of gender) would enjoy this. There were many couples there and they seemed to enjoy every minute of it!
Cheers,
Liz
