A Miami Icon

During my time in Miami, I got to visit a mixology-mecca: THE BROKEN SHAKER! This James-Beard nominated bar is the brainchild of Elad Zvi and Gabriel Orta have twenty years of combined experience. They opened Broken Shaker at Freehand Miami, in partnership with The Sydell Group (an owner and developer of lifestyle hotels). The Freehand is the modern interpretation of what a hostel should be. It takes all the concept of shared common spaces and sleeping spaces without the scary "hostility" that can come with a hostel.

The Broken Shaker has a vibe that you need to experience in person - it's welcoming without trying too hard and cool without having to be told so. Naturally, when I was there, I ordered Zacapa tiki cocktail - I don't recall what was in it, though I do recall it was fantastic!

I didn't take enough of pictures of it but most of the space of the Broken Shaker feels like a backyard. There are lounge chairs, fires going, a pool and an herb garden. It feels like you a part of the community even if you don't know anyone else there...at least not yet.

After a full-day of visiting accounts (I was in town for work not play), I was fairly wiped once we arrived. Therefore, I wasn't in the mood to hang around, which in reflection is a shame! I do know that the next time I'm in the market I will arrive well-rested so I can really enjoy my time :)

Cheers,

Liz
